How to Improve Your Dancing!
- Listen to timba and salsa music everyday. Learn about the music.
- Understand what the clave is all about.
- Practice the basic warm up steps and footwork by yourself several times per week.
- Locate a dance partner and practice the turn patterns during the week.
- Watch other people dance. Choose your role models— dancers you know or ones you’ve seen on videos.
- Keep track of what you learn. Make a dance journal with rueda calls, turn patterns, steps, tips and advice, etc.
- Ask other dancers what they’ve done to improve and become better dancers.
- Learn to accept comments and criticism and listen when other dancers give you suggestions. Like it or not, others WILL tell you about your dancing!
- Excercise and stretch regularly. Always stretch before you dance.
- Stick with it… this is a never ending journey!
